According to this data, Spain is the healthiest country in the world to live. and the area around the salt lakes on the Costa Blanca is particularly beneficial for people managing conditions that cause breathing difficulties and painful joints. Personally, I can vouch for that, because my auto-immune system condition is barely noticeable here in Algorfa, whereas when I’m in the UK, I rely on pain medication to keep me mobile.

Doctor’s Surgery
Look for signs for Consultorio Medico. The surgery is on Calle San Jose, just off Calle Mayor, on the left coming from Plaza España. Parking is limited, so allow plenty of time before your appointment.
There’s a reasonable level of English spoken by all the staff – Lourdes on reception is well organised and speaks excellent English, which is great, as she’s your first port of call. It should be said though if you have complex medical issues, it’s best to take along a translator, or a friend fluent in Spanish.

Emergency Medical Assistance
If you ore someone close to you is suffering from a serious injury or medical emergency, call 112 immediately, This is an English speaking emergency helpline. They will advise whether an ambulance is necessary, or if the patient is able to travel to the emergency department (Urgencias in Spanish). Dentist Maria’s surgery is located on Avenida Maria del Mar Rodriguez 17, two doors down from Quentin’s post room and gift shop. Maria has practiced in Algorfa for more than 10 years, and provides a range of treatments. Contact details and opening hours on the website.
On the corner of Avenida Maria del Mar Rodriguez and Calle Camino San Miguel, there’s a team of dentists, and you will be allocated the one most suited to carry out your treatment. Chiropractor
Chiropractor Dr Anne Lecuyer works from the clinic on the main road from La Finca to Almoradi and has more than 25 years experience, so if you struggle with pain that analgesics don’t touch, why not contact the clinic for a consultation? Contact details and opening hours on the website.
Chemist (Farmacia in Spanish)
Algorfa is fortunate to have two farmacias – one in Agorfa on Avenida Maria del Mar Rodriguez and a second, smaller branch on the La Finca commercial centre. With more than 20 years experience, you’re in safe hands here. In Spain, pharmacists are qualified to advise on treatment for minor illnesses and injuries, so try them first and you may not need to see a doctor at all. The La Finca Farmacia is open mornings only, Monday – Friday. The main branch in Algorfa is open from 9.00 pm – 8.30 pm Monday – Friday and 9.00 pm to 2.00 pm Saturdays. They do not close for siesta.

Podiatrists

Originally from Belgium but now happily settled in Algorfa, Sandrine and Carole specialise in what they call ‘medicures,’ which means they can treat problem feet as well as making them look pretty.
